Simpson Wild

Simpson Wild was a partnership between Andrew Simpson and Bruce Wild in the UK. Andrew and his brother Roger built a trimaran called Three Fingered Jack in 1969 and the Simpson Wild partnership set up building fast comfortable trimarans. They were commissioned by Brian Cooke in 1973 to build his 50 foot racer Triple Arrow sponsored by National Westminster bank for singlehanded racing. sadly the trimaran capsized in the 1974 Round Britain Race. Cooke disappeared while qualifying for the 1976 OSTAR and the trimaran was found empty and capsized in the Atlantic.  Silmaril a 30 foot SW tri capsized in the Atlantic after the OSTAR 1976 running under bare poles. She dived her lee hull into the wave in front and tripped over. The crew were rescued by a ship. Eventually Andrew Simpson left the UK and moved the business by sailing his own tri Whiskey Jack to Texas where they continued to sell trimarans for a while before closing the business in the 1980's. Andrew has gone on to flourish in many marine related endeavours and as a journalist. He cruises today in his self designed mono hull! His brother Roger was a very successful catamaran designer after basing himself in Australia.
